🌍 A living link between two mountain ecosystems

Keeping the mountains connected.

Between Mt Kenya and the Aberdares lies a fragile corridor of forest and farmland — a lifeline for elephants, the rare Mountain Bongo, and the communities who share the land. We work to keep it whole.

The corridor

One landscape, four counties, shared by all

The corridor stretches across Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga and Nyandarua — connecting two of Kenya's most important water towers and the wildlife that moves between them.

Laikipia

Open rangelands and conservancies where elephants begin their journey toward the forest edge.

Nyeri

Highland farms and forest margins at the heart of the corridor, where people and wildlife meet daily.

Kirinyaga

Fertile slopes of Mt Kenya, fed by rivers the corridor's forests protect.

Nyandarua

The Aberdare moorlands — cool, misty highlands and the western anchor of the link.

Wildlife

The species the corridor keeps alive

When the corridor closes, wildlife is cut off. Keeping it open is the difference between recovery and local extinction.

🦌Endangered

Mountain Bongo

A striking forest antelope whose survival in the wild depends almost entirely on this landscape remaining connected.

🐘Keystone species

African Elephant

Elephants move between Mt Kenya and the Aberdares along the corridor; open passages reduce conflict with farms.

🐆Rare

Black Leopard

The forests of this region are among the few places on Earth where the elusive melanistic leopard has been documented.

🦅Key bird area

Highland Birds

The moorland, forest and bamboo zones of the Aberdares host a remarkable diversity of birdlife.

Our work

How we keep the link open

Conservation here means working with communities, not around them — restoring habitat while reducing the friction between people and wildlife.

🌳

Reforestation

Restoring indigenous forest and riparian zones to rebuild the green stepping-stones wildlife needs to move.

🐘

Wildlife passages

Maintaining safe crossings and fence lines that let elephants pass while protecting farmers' crops.

🤝

Community stewardship

Partnering with farmers and CBOs across the four counties so conservation pays its way locally.

📡

Monitoring

Tracking species, habitat and human-wildlife conflict so every intervention is measured and accountable.

A corridor is not just a strip of land. It is the promise that the next generation of elephants, bongos and people will still have room to move.

Help keep the mountains connected

Whether you give, volunteer, or steward land along the corridor — every action keeps the link alive.
